Explore the expanding role of Ulysses S. Grant in the war effort, the growing importance of diplomacy, and the increasing participation of African Americans in the conflict. We’ll also examine the early stages of Reconstruction and developments in the naval war.
Instructor: Jim Brown. born in central Pennsylvania, a West Point grad who has a MS in Electrical Engineering from Cal Tech and a MA in American History from the University of Penn. He had 2 great grandfathers who fought in and survived the Civil War and is tracing their battle journeys in documents and visits to battlefields where they fought.

Throughout history, propaganda has been used to misdirect, misinform and deflect truth and reality from people in order to create behavior and inspiration for political, religious and economic ideas. Language, art and music are the primary tools used for communication, and they have been used for both good and bad effect, often encouraging people to make stupid decisions. This program explores human gullibility, the pitfalls of language and communication, famous propagandists in history and how it affects us today in a world of social media, 24-hour “news” outlets, political pundits, politicians, friends and family.
Instructor: Steve Pollack lectures on culture, history, music and art in area schools, libraries, and community & continuing education groups.
The Constitution & Current Events

Learn, discuss, and ask questions about the history and structure of the Constitution, the Constitutional Convention, current arguments and misconceptions & details about certain Articles and Amendments. At the end of the course, you can apply your knowledge of the Constitution when it comes up in current events.
Instructor: Jules Mermelstein is a retired UDT Commissioner, criminal defense attorney, teacher of history, gov't and constitutional law, and ACLU volunteer attorney. He is currently serving as a Vice-Chair of the Montgomery Bar Association's Government Relations Committee. He loves class discussions and any questions you have.
Challenges of Growing Old Together

Growing old together has challenges beyond individual issues. Physical, emotional and spiritual needs change as we age. It can be challenging to communicate these sensitive issues with each other. It is difficult, yet rewarding, to talk with each other about how we want to live, how we want to die, and how we want to be remembered. This group welcomes couples in diverse dedicated relationships for a kind, thoughtful conversation.
Instructor: Linda Schenker, MSW, has maintained a practice in psychotherapy in Philadelphia and Blue Bell for the past 40 years. She has specialized in relationship issues, family dynamics, and issues around aging and intergenerational relationships. She has run groups on parenting, relationship and aging issues, and has taught and supervised other clinicians.
Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

The Power of Plants

This plant appreciation class will be a 3-week series where we will see plants in different spaces, with different functions and benefits whether in our own homes, outside in our gardens and neighborhoods, and then, in our fragile world!
Instructor: With over 35 years of experience teaching horticulture at Saul H.S. and at Temple University, Lisa Blum puts her knowledge to use in her own garden. She assists with children's programming at the Ambler Arboretum and is part of the PA Horticultural Society Tree Tenders team to train communities in the care of trees.
Acting Workshop: Scene Study

This 6-week class will include working on one scene with a scene partner(s) focusing on text (script) analysis, understanding character's motivations, objectives and relationships to the overall content of the scene. It will also include character development work. Will involve some outside of class preparation.
Instructor: Retired UDSD theater teacher Debbie Thompson was a professional actress and cabaret performer, and is a founding member of the Upper Dublin Adult Community Players and Everybody’s Theater Company (ETC).
